The comeback of the travel industry is gaining momentum in the summer of 2023: The German airline Eurowings is responding to this development with a wave of new hires and has already reached a new peak in staffing just one year after the end of the Covid crisis. Germany’s largest leisure airline now has more than 4,700 employees, including around 1,500 colleagues hired since the crisis.
Employees were recruited in particular for the flight operations of Eurowings Germany and Eurowings Europe, as well as for the fast-growing IT startup Eurowings Digital GmbH at the Cologne location. As a result, the airline is heading into the summer holiday season with a record number of employees to be as well-staffed as possible and able to fly at times up to 100,000 passengers a day to their well-deserved vacations.
In order to continue the development of the company’s growth course towards Europe, Eurowings will also be presenting itself at a roadshow in the next few days, starting on 11 July in Wroclaw. The other roadshow dates are in Krakow (12 July), Warsaw (13 July), Split (9 August) and Bucharest (22 August). Interested parties (m/f/d) can find all vacancies and additional information at lufthansagroup.careers.
The strong comeback of the travel industry continues to keep the human resources department at Eurowings in high gear: By the end of the year, the Lufthansa Group airline, which specializes in affordable flights within Europe, is expected to approach the threshold of 5,000 employees for the first time – and exceed it next year. The company is still looking for numerous specialists, especially IT experts, technicians, pilots and flight attendants.
With these measures, Eurowings is developing rapidly – not only in terms of company size, but also in terms of diversity. The Cologne-based company’s pan-European growth course means that Eurowings now has employees from more than 50 nations. The proportion of women in flight operations at Eurowings Germany is 53 percent, and 49 percent across all occupational groups and companies.
Kai Duve, Managing Director Finance and Human Resources at Eurowings: “We are delighted and confident to see how quickly the travel industry is emerging from its longest and most difficult crisis. With the recruitment of more than 1,500 new employees, Eurowings has made all the preparations in terms of personnel to ensure that passengers have the smoothest possible start into their summer vacations. We have already demonstrated this during the first vacation peaks of the year at Easter and Whitsun. We are confident that our airport partners have also prepared well for this summer, so that together we can give our guests a good start to their vacations.”
